Candy Cane Cookies

Looking for a new and fun recipe this holiday season? Look no further! This candy cane cookie recipe I got from my wonderful mother-in-law is not only super cute, but super delicious!

Ingredients:

3/4 cup margarine (or butter), softened
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract (I always seem to be out of this ingredient, so I never use it, but the cookies always turn out yummy anyhow)
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/3 cup coconut (optional)
1 tsp. red food coloring

  1. Cream first five ingredients. Stir in dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Stir coconut into one part and red food coloring into the other. Chill 30 mins.
  2. Divide each dough into 30 balls. Form ropes and twist together and make candy cane shape. (lightly flour hands to keep from sticking). Bake at 375 degrees for about 10 mins.
